Sasha's First Date

 Dave and Sasha

Sasha turned the magical age of 16 on the 7th of June, and with that much anticipated birthday, comes DATING. She is now officially old enough to go on group dates. As is the tradition in our family, we as a parent, take our child out.  It is kinda a right of passage thing and very fun too.  They went to Anthony's Home Port at Pt. Defiance.  They had a great time and enjoyed really great seafood.  Here's to many more fun dates.  ( You will never forget this Sasha ).

Sasha Makes Meatloaf

Sasha made the most delicious dinner a while back when we had company.  I am so proud of her for her nummy cooking skills and her desire to learn.  This will definitely be a skill that will be used every single day in her adult life.  She has even taught me a thing or two.  Go Sasha...I will eat your cooking ANYTIME!

Sasha goes to the JROTC Military Ball

It takes a lot of curls to have pretty hair. Thanks Tessa!

This was Sasha's second opportunity to go to the Lakes High School JROTC Military Ball.  It was held at the McChord AFB Officer's Club.  It was decorated beautifully and the kids had a great time.  She had a nice time and looked really beautiful.  I can't believe how grown up she looks.

Sasha doesn't have BRACES!

Sasha is so GORGEOUS! Look at that pretty smile!

Sasha and her orthodontist, Dr. Andrew Leavitt
(It was nerd day at his office)

Today was a monumental day in our lives. Sasha had her braces removed after having them on for two years. I love her pretty smile. That smile is worth $6,100 bucks....although I prefer to think of it as her million dollar smile. Now....let's hope she remembers to wear her retainer like she is supposed to so it will not have all been in vain.

Sasha's new haircut

Sasha got a new haircut yesterday. She had brought in a ton of pictures and this is what it came out like. She wanted shorter hair....but now that it is cut, she wants her long hair back. I think it looks really pretty. She now has to get used to having shorter hair.

Sasha

This is a picture of Sasha on our cruise to Mexico that one of her friends took of her. She met this really nice boy her age who was visiting with his family from Sofia Bulgaria. They hit it off, and have been "pen pals" ever since. He took a really great picture. And besides, the weather in this picture is what I wish was doing here. Come on sun...get here already!

End of year concerts

Last night we went to Jayson's last concert of his 6th grade career. He plays the trumpet. He has really progressed nicely since he started playing the trumpet in September. So, in only 9 months, he has gone from just blowing air, to learning notes, how to read and count music, and how to play melodies with 60 other kids. I was very proud of him. Tonight we went to Sasha's last choir concert of her 9th grade year. This is her first year in the high school choir. She loves to sing and has a lovely voice. The concert was very enjoyable to listen to. Such progress was made there too. All in all, I have two very talented kids....just ask me....and I will tell ya.

Sasha Pole Vaulting ( second post of the day)

Sasha flying through the air.

Getting ready to run toward the pit. She is braver than I would be.

Video of Sasha pole vaulting. Hope it comes through.

Sasha has decided to try pole vaulting with her track team. She is still going to be running the 200 m and doing pole vaulting. Dave and I went to her track practice last Friday (4/23) and we took these pictures.

O'Ryan and Sasha...how cute they are!

Jayson, Sasha and Sarah right before we went over to the Ethington's for Sasha's photo shoot.

Sasha and her gorgeous, red, curly hair. She looked like a princess.

Sasha and Heather Behm. Heather was kind enough to do Sasha's hair. She had Sasha come over on Friday night and put those pink sponge curlers in her hair over night. Beauty has a price, ya know. Everyone needs a great friend with hair skills. Thanks so much Heather!

Sasha and her red cascading hair. Isn't it gorgeous??

Sasha in her pink sponge curlers.

Last night Sasha went to the Lakes High School JROTC Military Ball. It was held on North Fort Lewis ( or Joint Base Lewis McChord if ya want to get technical) at the Community Center on American Lake. It was a beautiful day with plenty of sunshine. Sasha was escorted to the dance by O'Ryan Ethington. He goes to our church and also to Sasha's school. The kids had a great time.

Missed picture to last posting.

Sasha and Coach Ruben Cortinas presenting her "L" for wrestling.

For whatever reason, I tried three different times to add this picture to the last posting. It just wouldn't post. So, please go to the last entry ( older posts) and see the posting that I just entered. It is frustrating sometimes when technology doesn't work like I want it to.

Sasha's Hope Chest

Sasha's new hope chest

Sasha, Granddad Rex Hoffman, and Dave

Sasha received a beautiful handmade hope chest. Granddad has been able to make hope chests for all of the granddaughters in the past. With Rex's delicate health the last few years, Sasha knew that there was no way that she would ever get a hope chest from her Granddad. Well, we found a way to surprise her. Dave has gone over to Mom and Rex's house weekly since October and helped build her hope chest. It is beautiful. Dave and Rex worked together as a team. It is really a gorgeous heirloom. So now, Sasha is super excited to be able to have something handmade from both her dad and Granddad. Precious. Isn't it gorgeous???

Sasha's Choir Christmas Concert

Sasha had her Christmas Concert on December 17. It was a really nice concert. I was really impressed that they actually sang religious music. The director, Dr. Keller, is amazing. He expects a lot out of the kids and they deliver. Sasha is in the front row the third from the right. Enjoy the music as it is great.

Sasha WON !

Last night, Sasha won her wrestling match. It was awesome. She had an opponent who was a great competitor. Sasha had the girl on her back in no time at all, and pinned her. It was after she pinned the girl, that the timing official determined that they didn't start the clock right. The pin was denied. Then Sasha pinned the girl a second time, but the umpire ( or whatever they are called in wrestling) determined that Sasha had done an illegal move....so that pin didn't stay. So, for the third time, Sasha pinned this gal, and it took. Yippee Skippee !! Sasha was super excited. Go Lady Lancers.

Sasha is a Wrestler !

Sasha in her wrestling garb.

Sasha looks so T A L L in this picture.

Sorry it is so dark. This is Sasha just starting to wrestle.

Sasha has surprised us all by joining her high school's wrestling team. She really loves it and even made the Varsity team. This is something that I wasn't too thrilled with at the beginning but she loves it and she only wrestles girls so I am OK with this. Anyway....little Sasha is a powerhouse.

Crazy Kids !

This is what happens when the kids get a hold of my camera. Every time I leave the camera by the computer, I am always surprised at the number of crazy faces that look back at me when I turn on the camera. I am so glad that they like each other and can have a great time together.

Sasha's newest pictures

I don't know how to add these pictures so that they look like the rest of the blog pictures....but I wanted to share my cutie with ya. I love her school pictures. I tell ya, these are NOT like the school pictures that I used to have. They were GROSS with a capital "G". Anyway...just thought that I would share these with you all. You can click on the pictures and then you can see them bigger.

Church 4 Ward Youth Party

O'Ryan Ethington and Sasha after she was bobbing
for apples. That would explain her soaking wet shirt !
Jayson with shaving cream on his face betting ready
to play a group game where half the group puts the shaving cream on and the
other group throws cheetos in hopes of them sticking to the cream.
Jayson bobbing for apples
Sasha bobbing for apples too!
Last night for Mutual, the youth had four congregations of young people together for a Halloween party. They had homemade root beer floats, games, bobbing for apples, and a ton of candy. The kids all had a great time. I am so glad that the Church gives our teenagers fun places to go that are safe. They always have a great time with their friends.

Sasha's choir concert

Sasha in her gorgeous pea coat before her choir concert
on 10/27/2009 at Lakes High School
Sasha with her choir outfit on
A very dark picture of Sasha's choir. She is the small
redhead in the front row with the long hair. Definitely the cute one!

Sasha had her first high school choir concert on Tuesday 10/27/2009. It was at the brand new Performing Arts Center at Lakes High School. It is a great facility. The sound was great. Sasha's choir sang a medley of songs from "Phantom of the Opera". Those are some of my all time favorite songs. They are beautiful and melodic. Sasha did a fabulous job...and I am not just saying that because I am her mother....the girl can really sing.
